The Medical Use Of Silver

In the history of mankind, silver has played multiple roles according to specific cultures: it has been in medicine, as a precious metal, and as an esoteric mineral in turn. Presently, many people are familiar with the use of silver in various homeopathic treatments, particularly as a substitute for antibiotics, but the therapeutic range it covers is much larger. Whether used orally or topically, silver in the colloidal form has powerful antibacterial properties; yet, it is also recognized for its detoxifying and cleansing effects at the level of the internal organs. Studies have also proved an acceleration of the metabolic and immune systems during the administration of colloidal silver products.

However, we cannot discuss the extraordinary healing effects of silver without taking into consideration the influence this precious metal had in alchemic formulas. For the ancients, silver was often associated with the moon, as the opposite of the sun with its corresponding mineral: gold. We still call the moonlight silvery, no doubt about that! In early scientific development, there was no periodic table and the metal classification was very limited. In alchemy, there were only seven sacred minerals, and silver had a very high rank among them; therefore, we find silver included in a variety of alchemic and philosophic texts of the Middle Ages for instance.

There is also the spiritual and energetic dimension associated with silver in most ancient cultures. For instance according to Asian medical practice, silver corresponds to the energetic point situated between the eyes also known as the third eye. Thus, silver stands for self-consciousness and internal value, governing the front head part of the brain, while also being responsible for vision. Furthermore, many traditional Ayurvedic remedies include silver as an elixir with great therapeutic properties in the treatment of all sorts of heart diseases.

Elder people who used silver vessels to preserve food or water, and those who turned to administrating small quantities of colloidal silver as part of their diet, reported increased levels of energy as compared to their prior condition. Though FDA records classify colloidal silver as a drug used to treat infections before the 1930s, the compound is very much in use all over the world as part of homeopathic remedies that help people improve their health condition. From alchemy and mysticism to medicine and spirituality, silver remains a valuable key element that goes beyond ages and cultures.
